NORCAL GRC WC/WCX Test
March 15, 2003, At
Grupe Training Grounds in Lodi, CA

WC Qualifyers above. I do not have the names of some these people. If anyone would like to email me and identify those you know, I'll be happy to post the complete list when I have it.   WCX Qualifyers. Same situation here. As soon as I have a complete list, I'll add it in. Just thought you'd like to see the pictures!

Congratulations to all the qualifiers!

Below are just a ton of pictures I took of the WC test. I didn't make it over to the WCX test until it was almost over. I tried to get pictures of most dogs on the WC land series but that was not possible. The water series was not conducive to taking pictures. Of course, I took a LOT more of our own dogs and those of friends. I appologize if your dog did not make it on this page. One or two of them are unidentified and please email me if you have any idea who it is.

Lunch For A Hunter
Okay, I have to tell you about this picture. I noticed an older gentleman standing around watching the test and I struck up a conversation with him. His name was Bob and he was an avid hunter who belonged to a local pheasant club nearby. He was there looking at the goldens in the test hoping to get a line on any future breedings. We stood around at the back of his pickup for a long time talking about various issues. His old hunting companion was in the back of the truck and, at 12 years old, Bob said this dog could work circles around most of the dogs he'd seen that day. I don't doubt that was true as this dog had spent its whole life hunting. She didn't look a lot like a modern Golden with her short coat. She may have been shaved, I don't know. At one point, he decided to give her a little food and not having something handy to feed the kibble with, he reached down, grabbed an empty cartridge box and scooped the kibble into it and began feeding her. I was immediately running for my camera, yelling for him to hold on, "That's a great shot!" He obliged, much to the angst of his dog, but I got this awesome picture. "Lunch For A Hunter"

O'Reilly Gets A Duck!
This story is a hoot. Nine years ago, we chose to go to O'Reilly (CH Ashford's Saffron O'Reilly UD JH WCX CGC SDHF OS) for the first breeding in our line. During the time of the Norcal WC/WCX test, we had the good fortune to have O'Reilly come stay with us for a short while as his owner had to go on a trip. So the old boy came along with us to the test and Terry had him out to air while they were prepping the water series. As they got close to doing the test dog, there were no other dogs around and it was a LONG walk back to the cars. The judge looked at Terry and O'Reilly and asked, "Is this our test dog?" Terry gulped and said, "Well he COULD be your test dog but mind you, he hasn't seen a duck in probably seven years!". I think O'Reilly couldn't believe his luck to get two ducks after such a long dry spell, especially the flyer. He did a great job!
